Tricia’s Letter of October 3, 2005
There were 20 people on the team this year. Of that
20, 3 were returnees from the previous year's team. I was one of six
individuals from BC, others from all over the country. At Bisley, there
were about 1200 people from all over the world. The majority of the team
being the beginning class of Target Rifle shooters, called the Tyro class.
This is the website for the NRA in
England, unfortunately, it seems that they've yet to post scores. The
team did relatively well during the Schools and Imperial matches. A lot
of us made the Schools top 100, there were about The Schools is a
competition which consists of only cadets, including the Combined Cadet Forces
(UK), Army Cadet Forces (UK), various different private schools (UK), and
of course, our Canadian team.
After the Schools, the Imperial Matches, which is the worldwide competition,
lasted for a week. Countries from all over the world participated.
Germany, Canada (Senior civilian Team as well as our Cadet team), USA, Kenya,
UK Teams (including the Athelings, our NRT equivalent), South Africa,
Caribbean, Australia, France, Malaysia, Netherlands, Trinidad, and New Zealand.
Here is
a link to the TR results. Our team's members’ placing are listed under
"RCAC National Rifle Team".
The Athelings and the NRT competed in a number of competitions. The AG
Bell, which was shot in England, resulted with a two-point win for them. We
shot their rifle, the L81. Back in Canada, they shot our C12A1 in the
Michael Faraday, with an easy 20+point win for us. The Rex Goddard, which
was held half in England, half in Canada, was won by the Athelings by ONE
point. These competitions were all held as team matches.
Back in Canada, we all participated in the DCRA, which is the big Canadian
competition. We did quite well for ourselves, being back on our own
ranges. England wind was definitely challenging to say the least!
I'm proud to say that the biggest match in the world - the Queen's Final, was
won by BC's own, James Paton!! Out of all the competitors from all over
the world, a Canadian came out on top. It was amazing to be in England
for that event.
Ok, so there's a little background info for you! Hope it's enough.
I'm here to answer any questions.
